then you get it home and have no idea what to wear with it.
That is the story of this great skirt I found at Target before Christmas. You can't tell how awesome it is in the picture. It has two layers. The top layer is black tulle, so it feels like a tutu without all the poofy. (There is nothing wrong with poofy. I love poofy, but sometimes it isn't the most practical thing to wear.) the second layer is shear with the lightest four inch border of gold sequins.
The problem came with deciding what to wear with it. Gold seemed too much. My normal pop of color didn't work either, and a black top was just too blah.
After weeks, months actually, of looking at it, debating what to wear with it, and putting it back on the rack in my closet, I was determined to wear it to church Sunday.
I still am not crazy about the results, but I opted for this shimmery gold shell that goes with a twin set I bought in 2001. I normally tell how much something costs, but there is no way that even I can remember what something cost 12 years ago.
The cardigan is the same cardigan I wore in my 40s vibe post. Sunday morning I tucked it on so as not to distract from the fabulous skirt. I belted it with this fantastic black sequin belt I picked up at Walmart last October en route to my friends' wedding in Charleston. It was on clearance for like $4.
The black, floral fishnet tights are from Cato. They always get a reaction when I wear them. Every time I wear them to church some man says, "Hey, you have flowers on your legs." Boys are so dorky. They can't help it.
The boots are from Belk. I got them when I was in Atlanta a few weeks ago. They are Gianni Bini and were originally $98, but because I am awesome and would never spend that much money on ankle boots, I got them on final clearance for about $40.
The bubble earrings came from Charlotte Rouse. I don't remember how much they were. Weird I know, but I honestly don't remember.
Like I said, I am not crazy about this look. It isn't bad, but not my favorite. I think the skirt will work much better in the spring. Maybe you will see it again then, and I can do a "who wore it better" type poll and see which season does it rock best.
If I had to guess I would say this outfit was a little over $100, but that included a sweater that is 12 years old, so I probably shouldn't count that estimated cost and fabulous shoes that were originally that much by themselves.
